    update-rc.d wicd defaults
    /etc/init.d/wicd start
    startx

I am using a Broadcom BCM4312 wireless card and BackTrack 5. Any help would be great!
Is it doing this with all routers? or just the one you use? My card was fine after adding the daemon.

Seems like it's your router to me unless you have tried others, but I dont own that card so I cannot help test if it is that.

    Same problem here ath9k + rtl8187
This happens on WEP secured APs.

You are still associated but gateway doesn't respond at all after few seconds. When you reconnect same scenario occurs.
Tried to play with RTS threshold, RTS retry limit, Fragmentation threshold, txpower , wifi mode nothing works

This happens when you are connecting manually using iwconfig or wicd
    BT4 R2 / BT5-32kde

When i try to connect to the same AP using Windows link is rocksolid stable....

    dmesg doesn't output anything suspicous..
Is there any way how to enable debug tracing in wireless drivers?

THX and sorry for my english

    same problem.

no luck with any of the suggestions here.

have both ath5k and rtl8187 , tried with numerous APs, connection stops responding after a minute or two

continuous traffic sometimes helps make it last

wicd still shows connected, but the link just becomes unresponsive. disconnect/reconnect fixes it temporarily

backtrack5 with all updates (via apt-get)

    wicd 1.7.0 bzr-r552

at system startup, wicd-daemon.py, wicd/monitor/daemon/monitor.py, wpa_supplicant, dhclient are all running

some interesting errors relating to wicd being reported in /var/log/pm-suspend.log (I have no interest in suspend/resume, how can I disable this?)

just rebooted, started x, connected via wicd, ping'd google for 3 min, stopped, waited 10 sec, tried again. dead.

how can i turn up the logging level to see what's happening?

btw, the captchas are ****ing irritating. took me 10 refreshes until there was one i could (barely) pick the characters out

The problem isn't your WiFi cards but wicd itself, it's probably trying to switch to your ethernet connection which isn't available causing you to get disconnected from your wireless connection.

Switch to nm-applet and the problem will go away.

    Code:
    apt-get install network-manager-gnome NetworkManager
You might have to fix nm-applet as well.. if you come across any problems try this..

    Code:
    vim /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf
    And set
    [ifupdown]
    managed=true

    Then..

    [code]
    killall -9 nm-system-settings
    [code/]
    And run nm-applet again.

    Hope this helps!

I'm having the same problem described.

I installed nm but when I type nm-applet to run it I get the error:

An instance of nm-applet is already running.

    ** (nm-applet:4539): WARNING **: <WARN> constructor(): Couldn't initialize the D-Bus manager.

I don't get a gui or anything when I restart the computer and in my System>Preferences>Startup Applications, Network Manager is added.

    Any help would be appreciated!
