I'm looking for an old portable (less than 12 inch screen) laptop that will be able to run backtrack off the hard drive with no problems. it doesnt have to have integrated wireless but does have to have a pcmcia card slot.
The specs don't really matter as long as it can run backtrack.
oh and for £200 or less
SONY VAIO C1VE (bit more expensive but ULTRA portable)
IBM THINKPAD 240X PIII 500Mhz
I'm currently using a old compaq armada m300
Runs bt2.0 fine (xp is chuggy as expected - still can browse the web ect but dont expect to play vids with integrated video)
pcmcia slot on the right hand side
usb at back & on connector bay (cd/floppy mount it disconnects from)
note: Just make sure the battery is decent and you'll be right.
3.4 Pounds (No AC Adaptor)
- its pretty friggin tiny
http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/a...06/m300-02.jpg <- thats it connected to the bay (actually about 1/2 the thickness)
http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/a...06/m300-04.jpg <- the size on the screen is the actual size of it (1280x res )
im curenly on an compaq armada 6500 hah! 30gb hdd
al is good .. combo network modem
needs atention under back track *(incodentaly)
and my bat=dead dodo
other than that its a bute

good luck on finding simler bargins !!
A third party security audit is the IT equivalent of a colonoscopy. It's long, intrusive, very uncomfortable, and when it's done, you'll have seen things you really didn't want to see, and you'll never forget that you've had one.
I always thought the Sony picturebooks were cool. No clue on how well it would work. It's a Sony, so expect things to be almost as proprietary as a Mac. My current BT laptop is a Dell Latitude C610. Works great, and I added aquired a second hard drive module to go where the cd/dvd usually sits. It's a 15" model though, so wouldn't work for your current want list.
Of course, if you really wanted to have some fun, go to Wal-Mart late at night and ask the greeter if they could help you find trashbags, roll of carpet, rope, quicklime, clorox and a shovel. See if they give you any strange looks. --Streaker69
what is the best/recomended processor speed for BT2 ?
