Something I was wondering after reading your posts beaman. Do you have a coax crimping tool to crimp the RP-SMA connector?
Sorry I didn't respond sooner beamen. I had to spend "quality time" with my wife this weekend.
Since your gonna be crimping on the female bulkhead...I suggest you buy a couple..just in case. The wire looked good and solid and remember...keep your leads from the card to the female SMA as short as possible to reduce signal loss....but that antenna....couldn't tell if it was SMA or not...but I put this on my card..and I love it....
Its a 10dbi omni from Airlink101..good...cheap...no probs.

Μολὼν λαβέ - Great spirits encounter heavy opposition from mediocre minds.
Nope, but I have a regular crimper. If not can I just soldier it on? I don't need a ground right? Since he said it was around the wire. Does this sound right?
Just soldier it to the antenna and I am set?
If my regular crimp doesn't work, where can I get a coax crimping tool?
I used a regular crimper..no problems with it. I don't suggest soldering it..
And of course you need a ground!!! Solder the shielding of the wire (which is the ground) to that "test" connection piece sticking up..or alternatively...solder the ground to the bottom right portion of the card at the big "squiggly" section of the antenna feed after you scrape off the green. Don't forget to take off that capacitor right underneath that "test" connection piece. Just heat it up and use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull it off with.
See that thing circled in yellow?? Solder your ground to it. And take out that capacitor directly below it. Now as the alternative ground...you still need to take out the capacitor but ground your wire to that "lighter green" area to the south east corner of the yellow circle just outside the circle. See it? Scrape it all off (the light green) and solder your ground to it. You'd be using the leftover 50ohm line feed..but since the capacitor was taken off..this makes for a smoother and easier spot to solder your ground to.

probably sounds like a dumb question, but how do i get the plastic bits off the card? I think I'll give this a shot once I find some connectors. Also my version is slightly different as the rf shield covers the entire chipset.
*edit* ignore that, a little brute force and ignorance got it off![]()
I've found a pair of edge mount sma connectors. Do you think I could short the capacitor, tie the center pin to the squigly line areas and ground it elsewhere as long as the overall resistance remains somewhat the same?
