Recently I installed BT4 R2 on a core I-3 system with Intel HD 2000 graphics.
There is also an ATI X300 PCI-E card present.
I couldn't get the screen resolution @ 1600*1200 on the Intel, and from what I read, installing Intel drivers is a pit of a pain in the a$$, so I decided to install the ATI drivers instead, but after rebooting and startx, I got a garbled screen, replacing xorg.conf also didn't help, neither did fixing xserver in the recovery mode.
As a sidenote, I didn't install the ATI drivers in the right way, I should have generated the right packages for my distro, and here is my question, what is the exact Ubuntu version for this release of BT4??

Try downloading the ati linux drivers from the ati website, I had a problem with my graphics card like this recently and It solved it.
I did DL the drivers from AMD/ATI, but got too much problems, the open source ATI drivers however did the trick!
And here's the howto:

When it was working again, I made my onboard graphics adapter primary, but after that I got the same screen as in the beginning, and since I don't want to change bios settings every time I boot BT, I decided to install the Intel graphics, but it needs a lot of upgrading, and of course some crucial stuff wasn't online/available at the moment, so I will try it again later........
