Hello Backtrack Community
Good Job you guys are doing, i've been reading the forums consistent for 4 days now and cant find my answers so i decide to post up.
I am using the Toshiba Satellite L505 With the Windows 7 OS installed. I installed VMware workstation to run backtrack 4 r2 with a bridge connection, however i'm unable to bring up wlan0 whenever i run the command, it seems to me that/etc/init.d/networking startwont even see my network controller. I will quote all the information i can about what i did to troubleshoot this without luck. I installed the latest linux driver from realtek official website. unpack the gz make and make install then reboot and still no luck.lspci

I followed what Cyberworg said and still no joy!
Are you saying that rtl8191se wont work with backtrack?
Any suggestion moderators?
Is it a PCI-E device and will that even work with VMWare?
http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...irtualbox.html
Unless your using a USB card you can not access wifi, your actual hardware be it wifi or not is converted to a ethernet link when connected unless its usb wifi card take a look at a alfa there relatively inexpensive
I understand that i cannot use wireless with vmware, however i also have a belkin wireless usb adapter, i get the same results withwhen i connect the usb adapter/etc/init.d/networking start
What model is it?however i also have a belkin wireless usb adapter
Besides the adapter may not work im also going to ask if you selected in vmware to connect it to the virtual machine to the usb adapter
Its a Belkin connect N150.
Yes it is connected in vmware. However the pre configuration in vmware is set to bridged. If i boot up backtrack i can see where the usb wireless is connected, if i disconnect the bridge, i loose all internet connection even though it says usb is connected
So what is it that you're actually trying to do, you've got the internet working with your wireless adapter but when you change the network settings you lose the connection? If i boot up backtrack i can see where the usb wireless is connected, if i disconnect the bridge, i loose all internet connection even though it says usb is connected
