Unable to ssh get: Network error: Software caused netwok abort everytime

Hi everybody!

Every time I try to ssh I get this error message:

Network error: Software caused netwok abort

I've tried with putty and WinSCP on windows 7. I have disabled the windows firewall. I even went into my router turned off that firewall and tried putting both machines outside the the DMZ in my router (Demilitarized Zone option lets you set a single computer on your network outside of the router). I can ping the machine and telnet to port 22 and it connects I get:

SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-3ubuntu1

Has anyone else experienced this problem and know how to fix it?

So generally networking needs to be started on BT.
Then you should probably setup the ssh service and generate the keys.
Then you should start said service.
In the menu under BackTrack > Services you should see the options to do this.
Connecting to BT with a windows computer is a bit outside the scope of this forum, however someone may be able to help you further. Please be sure to post the actual commands and their respective outputs.

Thank you Archangel-Amael! I had alread started ssh and networking on the machine however I didn't generate a key. After I generated the key I was able to connect. I was just trying to start ssh by /etc/ini.d/ssh start however I didn't run the sshd-generate. Thank you for pointing me in the right directions. Very much appreciated!
