Running Backtrack from Virtual PC

Hi I was wondering whether it is possible to run Backtrack on a windows machine by having it installed on a virtual PC?
I am asking as I am getting a brand new laptop (coming tomorrow ) and I dont really want to be playing about with dual booting it but at the same time I would like to be able to have Backtrack installed on the laptop so that I dont have to be dealing with the CD.

sure just create a new virtual machine and add a emulated cdrom with bt2final.iso (allow connect at startup....)
boot virtual machine , that's all

easy to do this with vmware workstation.......

but the easier way is a usbinstall if u don't wish to use ur cdrom
extract iso, copy boot and BT directory onto usbstick
go /usbstick/boot/
run bootinst.bat from boot directory onto usbkey

Does this mean that I should be able to use all of the tools for example the wireless tools? or would it just be a limited number of applications?

yes but you need to configure network tab of vmware machine and add ncard to your machine, don't use the host drivers(windows...) will not inject surely.....

i have tryd with virtual pc 2007 and it just boot but i wont be able to use the mouse why? im supose to press lefter shift ore something (dont remeber now) to be able but it dont help whats wrong?

have tryd with vmware but dont work either but i dont know what kind of linux version to chose :/

Virtual Pc doesnt work correctly however i did come across a tutorial to be able to use VMWare player (free version of vmware instead of virtual pc) to be able to use backtrack in there.

Hey there,

why not installing it to hard disk? It's really simple and there are step by step guides on how to install bt2 to a harddrive. And if you like to remove it (i surely don't ), it's also not very complicated.

Then you get the full bt2 without running a virtual machine under it - so you don't have to bother if the virtual machine is a possible source of "errors", so it's one less potential failure point.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. I am happily booting dual XP/bt2 and it works fine.

the better and easier i think way of testing backtrack is to install to usb

extract or mount iso
copy boot and BT directory onto usb key
go into usb key and run /boot/bootinst.bat if ur under win or bootinst.sh if u are under linux....

that's all >>> reboot and happy test .....
