How to use a monitor using the DVI adapter of a laptop?

I have Backtrack 4 Final Release1. I have correctly installed the drivers for my Ati Mobility Radeon 4400, and I want to know how to connect the monitor to my laptop.

Plug it in and use the keyboard to switch output modes. Your OS and/or drivers shouldn't matter.

the problem is that the blue buttons don´t work on my laptop with Backtrack.

The laptop is a Samsung R522. Should I select any particular keyboard layout?

Try changing your video mode using Fn + <monitorkey> before you startx.
