Default BT4 not upgrading its kernel or anything else.

Hi. I just booted my old installation of bt4. Iv upgraded it just after bt4 r2 has released. before login it says "BackTrack 4 R2 ..."

However, when I try to upgrade my installation it does nothing, just says that thers nothing to upgrade.

    Its currently using 2.6.30.9 kernel.
    Code:
     uname -a
    Linux bt 2.6.30.9 #1 SMP Tue Dec 1 21:51:08 EST 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
so apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade doesnt upgrade it. What to do then. I really don't want to reinstall it.

Apt-get update downloads those "package lists" and apt-get update says that nothing to be upgraded, but Im sure that some tools have upgraded since last year.

came across the same problem follow the guide
    Upgrading - BackTrack Linux

We'll add some new packages not present in r1:

    root@bt:~# apt-get install postgresql-backtrack-config bf3 linux-backtrack-firmware

****reboot here i found that if i didnt that the kernel didnt configure
when i went to install the new kernel it installed it but didnt use it

Now we will prepare our kernel sources:

    root@bt:~# apt-get install linux-source
    root@bt:~# cd /usr/src/
    root@bt:/usr/src# tar jxpf linux-source-2.6.35.8.tar.bz2
    root@bt:/usr/src# rm linux
    root@bt:/usr/src# ln -s linux-source-2.6.35.8 linux
    root@bt:/usr/src# cd linux
    root@bt:/usr/src/linux# cp /boot/config-2.6.35.8 .config
root@bt:/usr/src/linux# make scripts && make prepare
    root@bt:/usr/src/linux# ln -s /usr/src/linux /lib/modules/2.6.35.8/build
    root@bt:/usr/src/linux# apt-get clean
    root@bt:/usr/src/linux# cd /root/

    http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...ktrack-r2.html

thats the link if you have wireless card issues you need to cp firmware from old kernel

after all that you can purge the old kernels

I seem to be having the same problem.
After a successful install when running uname -r the kernel still remains at 2.6.30.9

I have purged via the correct command but still no luck. I then tried to do the install again and was going to reboot after running apt-get install postgresql-backtrack-config bf3 linux-backtrack-firmware but it says i have the latest firmware and installs nothing.

Why would the newest kernel not show when running uname? i need latest kernel to install Intel graphics driver.

    Thanks
