Did you install the nvidia drivers yet?
Hi guys
I have a laptop with two graphics cards, nvidia gt425m cuda and an intel one, it also runs in some kind of optimus mode. The problem is i cant get to startx(no screens found error). have tried fixvesa, instaling drivers etc. I once found a post on this forum reading that someone has the same issue, but it couldn't be solved. Are there any updates with this issue so i can start using BT? Thanks![]()

yes, i have installed them, also the cuda toolkit, but still i get no screens found.
M series denotes that it's a mobile GPU, so tell us, in detail, what you have it installed in.

As of right now there is not Linux support for laptops that are using Nvidia's OPtimus technology.
To make this short: Many laptop manufactures are integrating dedicated GPU's ( for graphics intensive applications) as well as the onboard graphics chips of the motherboard ( for non-intensive graphics applications, such as text editing). So the idea is to save on battery power. What his means to Us right now is that Nvidia has not released drivers for this technology. So you may be able to get graphics working for the onboard intel card but likely not the Nvidia one.
However this may change in the future.

I just returned a laptop that had this technology in it due to the above.
The only thing I see as a work around at this time would be to get a laptop that only has an Nvidia card ( or other manufacturer).
I believe the higher end models from many laptop makers will have the one card, and of course a better one at that.

So is there any way to startx with only the Intel graphic card enabled?
Good info there from Archangel-Amael. Without telling us what laptop you have, I can't even research the issue for you, although you should really be doing it yourself. Also, this is neither a Backtrack nor a Linux issue but an Nvidia issue. However, from the info provided, it may be possible to run off of the Intel GPU. You'll have to review your bios settings and the manual that came with the laptop.

@sotirius
Have a look at this post. That's the way I could make it work.
Hope it helps
