Default ATI Display Messed UP - Kernel 2.6.35.8

After upgrading & updating the distro and kernel. My display is now sluggish and compiz fusion is not working anymore.

I was afraid of upgrading, because its been a while since i setup up everything to how I like it.

I had pyrit to use my grafix card when pentesting, and now i get error when doing:
    #~: pyrit benchmark
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 143 ()
Minor opcode of failed request: 19
Serial number of failed request: 8
Current serial number in output stream: 8

Looks like the driver is misinstalled, most probably because old driver kernel modules are present from before the upgrade. Did you try removing and installing it back again?

    hey, thanks for replying...

yes, i installed and reinstalled. This is how i removed it.

    #:cd /var/lib/dkms/fglrx
    #:sudo sh ./fglrx-uninstall.sh
    rebooted.

Now when i restart, and i do "#: pyrit list_cores" i get the correct response.

    But when re-install the drivers:
    #:./ati-driver-installer-10-12-x86.x86_64.run
continue, agree, continue. Then restart, problem occurs again.

When you uninstall the one in /var/lib/dkms/fglrx do
    Code:
    sudo apt-get purge xorg-driver-fglrx
and check again for any old stuff in /var/lib/dkms/fglrx

You may find this page very usefull when installing back.

P.S. Are you on 64? (32-Bit packages must be installed for 64-Bit Linux drivers to install or work).

    I forget if i installed BT4 as 64 or 32.

ok I did the following after reading your post and this what I got after following the steps on that site:

    Code:
    sudo dpkg -i xorg-driver-fglrx_8.771-0ubuntu1_i386.deb fglrx-kernel-source_8.771-0ubuntu1_i386.deb fglrx-amdcccle_8.771-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

    [Warning] Uninstall : inst_path_default or inst_path_override
does not exist in /etc/ati. This suggests that the ATI driver
is not installed, the ATI driver is only partially installed,
or the current ATI driver installed is an older version than the
one this script was designed for. Both files listed above are
required for determining where installed files are located.
To force uninstallation of the driver by guessing where the
uninstallation files are located, set the FORCE_ATI_UNINSTALL
environment variable and re-run /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh (this is not recommended).
