I am no expert but a quick search I found most people have success with this,

hi all ,, hope u doing gd and having gd time..
i was using bt4r1 and wanted to update it to r2 i followed the steps that are mentioned here Upgrading - BackTrack Linux
and when i reached the step fix-splash ,,, i restarted the pc ,, logged in,,typed startx
then it tells me that there is a problem and no screen found :S
any idea guys ???
and another question .. could we see a new release of backtrack soon ?

10x manit works
but no nvidia card is selected
knowing that my card is nVidia Corporation GT215 [GeForce GTS 350M]
and i have the .run installation file ... but its not being installed :S since it was working well
now it shows me Unable to build the NVIDIA kernel module.
any idea guys??

apt-get install nvidia-driver
If I remember right Backtrack is still using an xorg.conf. Before you type startx do this:
Backup your current xorg.conf. You can just copy it to your desktop or something. Then run:
Code:dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
