Trying to install Backtrack 4 using ISO burnt to DVD

Hello,

I am attempting to boot into backtrack 4 using the backtrack 4 final release ISO. when I reboot my machine, i get the grub> prompt and I can't get to the GUI. I tried the commands listed in there after hiting the TAB key, but no combinations seem to work. Tried typing startx but it doesn't reconize the command. Typing boot, states I need to load the kernel. Typing kernel fails each time. I really don't know what is going on. I thought it would just load the GUI up right away. What's the next step?

I had exactly the same thing happen. There was nothing doing. I checked the DVD on another machine and it worked, so I reckon it was some kind of compatibility problem with the laptop.

The next step should have been the first step. Check the md5 of your iso file. If that checks out, burn the disk at a slower speed.

As slow as your burner will burn, for me that's 2X.

Agree and + 2 on the other comment - slowest burn speed when burning any image IMO.Sort of a pain in the ass to wait until half way through an cd install it shits the bed due to some corruption easily prevented by proper burn speeds
