Well is it just the fonts or is it the entire resolution?
i do everything right when booting from usb but when i type startx and get to the desktop everything is huge and i cant do anything.

Its just the font like when i click the start thing in the left corner its HUGE i cant even read it the font is so big and like the install on the desktop is HUGE also but the background and taskbar isent
I ran into something similar, I don't think it was as large as you are describing but my issue was resolved after I installed the proper video drivers for my video card.
"lspci" should give you an idea of what card you have if you aren't sure.
Try giving fix-vesa into the terminal before you type startx.

i did this and when i pressed startx it said Format not supported and nothing showed up. ive done this before but i cant find why its doing this

I had same problem when using BT3 and later also during BT4 usage. In my case it was only problem in screen resolution. It didnt get resolved when changing resolution in X server (i mean during KDE session). This is how i solved that:
1. change resolution and apply changes (in my case, everything still huge like shit)
2. shut down X server and do dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
3. startx and it worked like a charm
well i did it but it didnt work i might have messed something up when i did the configuration idk i just did what it said. Well guess im not gunna be able to use back track thats fine tho
