BT won't boot after dual boot with Win7

I recently had posted because I accidently installed Linux BT over my Windows 7 part.... ouch. I decided to forget the lost files, and move on with my life. So, I shrunk the partition BT used, rebooted to make sure it still booted fine, and it did. Then I installed Win 7 on the non BT part. Now Win 7 boots and I don't get the option to boot BT. When I had just BT on my system, uppon boot I got the message 'Press esc for boot options' or something of the like, not anymore. Here is my fdisk -l:

Obviously my BTpart is still intact, but uppon boot Grub doesnt even start. How do I get my dual boot on from this point? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm about at the point of moving on to my next project... flying laptops.

From what I recall boot.ini overwrites the grub, in order to make it work you should install Windows7 and after that Backtrack following the guide and it should work fine.

Is there any way to fix the grub so I dont have to reinstall BT? I got it tweaked how I like it and I would rather not go through all that again if I can avoid it.

**Update** I have gotten grub working again by the method explained in another thread here:

But when I boot now, and press 'esc' during grub load, I only see BT options... is there something I need to edit in the grub files to make it show my Win 7 part?

If reinstalling backtrack works, you might still have problems. My friend was trying to dual-boot ubuntu and Win7, but he would have to reinstall ubuntu every time. We did some research and found that there is some kind of discrepancy with 7 that won't allow you to dual boot 7 and linux. We have not been able to find a way around it.

Really now? I must be one of the l33t one's that can do it cause I have a triple boot Win7/Gentoo/BT4 on one of my laptops.

Seriously now, come on, people dual-boot Win7 and Ubuntu, Gentoo, Slackware...etc all the time. Search harder in the forums and on the wiki and maybe even Google on how to dual boot Windows and Linux.

I installed backtrack4 r2 in a USB. However, I unplug the USB, the GRUB can not find. That is really inconvenient when I want to boot Windows XP. How can I put the system back like before it booted Windows?

At first you might want to learn that hijacking threads won't necessarily lead to answers.

Good that you moved on, you don't need to reinstall BT though, a simple reinstallation and configuration of GRUB is enough. roybatty gave a good link to learn about it.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium dual booted with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. So far, they are playing nice together.
