Bt4 won't find my wireless USB adapter ---ERROR!!!!

I have bt4 beta 2. I'm using a desktop, booting bt from my USB flash drive. I bought a belkin wireless USB adapter to use since my computer doesn't come with it. When I type in airmon-ng it doesn't show any nic or anything...

So I start networking with /etc/init.d/networking start
It says : ERROR while getting interface flags: no such device

And it says this 2x for each default device I'm guessing

Eth1
Eth2
Ath0
wlan0. Every single one of them...

I've installed the drivers for my adapter it's recognized by the computer and connected

to get a complete list of interfaces. what does your system actually recognize?

also, what drivers have you installed and how do you know that it is "recognized and connected" ? which Belkin are you talking about here?

i assume you can browse fine and it is just monitor mode you are having an issue with? Try putting the interface into monitor mode manually first...

im using Belkin N300 Surf & Share. I installed the software/drivers that came with it.. it finds all wireless networks in rang on my desktop computer, and when i run wireshark(a sniffer program) it sees it as one of my NIC's but isn't able to put it in promiscous mode don't really know if thats related.

All i have did is the steps that i seen on youtube.

step #1 startx (to start GUI)
step #2 /etc/init.d/networking start (start networking adapter)
note: this is where i get the error and it say "no such thing everything i said above"

step #3 airmon-ng (to find name of NIC)
Note: when i do this Gives me categories but shows no Adapters underneath it.

This is my problem.. I can also send you screen shots if your confused.

First off, you don't need to use the /etc/init.d/networking start command. That just runs a script that tries to bring up and make a dhcp request for all interfaces you have listed. Do what macphail said and post what output you get when you type

ifconfig -a

.

Are you actually having issues with connecting to a wireless AP and surfing the internet or is this an issue with injection/sniffing? If the latter, then wireshark telling you the device can't be put into promiscuous mode would be a big clue. I'd google for a bit and see if your device can in fact be used in this manner.

i would research the Belkin N300's abilities/problems with promiscuous mode, if it were me...but that is just one option and i have been horribly wrong before (just ask my ex)

Since you said that is says "ERROR while getting interface flags: no such device" for everything (except eth0), I would guess you don't have the proper driver for your USB wireless adapter.

I researched "Belkin N300" a little, but it seems to be the router, not the wireless adapter. Is that right?

I think first you should find out the exact model of your wireless adapter and check if it is supported and/or if it comes with the right modules by default. Try typing "lsusb" or "lshw" on the shell and check what is there, maybe that will help you get the wireless adapter info. From there, I think you should check if you have the proper modules.

I advanced with computers, just am having a tough time wiht my Adapter and bt4 finding it. Nobody has been able to help me so far here in the forums so I was hoping someone would have the time to try and help me 1 on 1 if possible to get my problem resolved. Below is a link to my issue.
