Internet Turns Off

Hello, I just got BackTrack 4 R1 not to long ago and use it via dual-boot.

When I login and open the desktop, I go to the network manager.

~I see my router (No security on it), connect to it, it connects fine.
~I go on Google, type in "Test". Google searches properly.
~I type something else in the Google search, internet is off.

~I restart BackTrack, it happens again in the same amount of time.

~I open up network manager, I'm still connected to my router.

This is the 2nd-3rd day this has been happening (Since I've gotten BT). I've never been on the internet for more than 10 seconds.

Maybe you want to check your logfiles. You might find a pointer into the right direction in there.

Also it would be good to know which hardware you use.

This is a basic network problem. I don't know what the solution is but if you can't troubleshoot this you are going to find it very difficult to understand BT4...

I had a similar problem on my box a long time ago. Apparently my ethernet port went bad, and I just simply installed a new ethernet card on my box.

It would not help to rule out whether or not your port is going bad.

Can you ping your gateway? Can you ping a public address (i.e 8.8.8.8)?

I'd have to agree that this looks like a very basic networking problem, these forums generally assume you have general networking knowledge, including the means to troubleshoot.

have you done any ping testing yet when this happens? PistonDoctor is right, if you are unable to troubleshoot this, backtrack is going to be rather difficult.
