You are to vague....you will never solve this by not saying what the "device" is.

When I read you post, I feel like I'm reading one of those Nigerian e-mail scams...you simply cause my weird-crap-o-meter to spike.

First, if anyone wants to help, you have to mention what " device" or soft you are talking about. When it is a soft you can look in the registry and when you're lucky you'll find it there. And there are a few other options possible.

A little tip for any future posts you may make: Detail is good, but make sure its all relevant to the solving of the question at hand.

Including too much information, or encapsulating the relevant information in a story of how your problem came to be is a sure way to ensure that only people in the mood for listening to a good yarn are going to read your entire post. Personally, I don't come here for the enjoyment of dramatic prose, so I kind of drifted off about halfway through your post above.

You may want to edit the above with that in mind.
Capitalisation is important. It's the difference between "Helping your brother Jack off a horse" and "Helping your brother jack off a horse".

Wouldn't that cause a lock out? Anyone.

Usually those kind of devices come with a "hard" reset button. It might be a small button on the back of it or a tiny little hole which needs to be pressed with a needle. I remember you said no datasheet or docs are available for it, so give it a thorough examination and find it if there is one.
If anything can go wrong, it will....

Surely this is the time you fire up Olly and go to town... or just give it up...
    Still not underestimating the power...
