    Unhappy Dell E1505 ---- works great, but lose network functionality due to older ubuntu

    Hey all. I just installed BT4 final on my Dell E1505. Pretty old.
    In any case, I am running into a bug that use to previously plague ubuntu 8.10ers, but was fixed subsequently and I never saw, and currently don't see when I run newer actual ubuntu releases.

    My broadcom 4311, (bcm4311) is supported and works perfectly with no encryption and wep...
    However, standard higher level encryptions, eg. wpa and above to not work.

    For ref -- lscpi -

    Code:
    0:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) SMBus Controller (rev 01)
    03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX (rev 02)
    03:01.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Ricoh Co Ltd R5C832 IEEE 1394 Controller
    03:01.1 SD Host controller: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter (rev 19)
    03:01.2 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C592 Memory Stick Bus Host Adapter (rev 0a)
    03:01.3 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd xD-Picture Card Controller (rev 05)
    0b:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 01)

    On WICD, association with these wpa/wpa2 nodes simply doesn't work, and dmesg throws:

    Code:
    b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 410.2160 (2007-05-26 15:32:10)
    Registered led device: b43-phy0::tx
    Registered led device: b43-phy0::rx
    Registered led device: b43-phy0::radio
    ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
    wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:16:b6:47:3a:16
    wlan0: privacy configuration mismatch and mixed-cell disabled - disassociate
    wlan0: authenticated
    wlan0: associate with AP 00:16:b6:47:3a:16
    wlan0: mismatch in privacy configuration and mixed-cell disabled - abort association
    wlan0: privacy configuration mismatch and mixed-cell disabled - disassociate
    input: b43-phy0 as /class/input/input25
    b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 410.2160 (2007-05-26 15:32:10)
    Registered led device: b43-phy0::tx
    Registered led device: b43-phy0::rx
    If this were ubuntu, I would have no issues fixing... (I think the kernel and bcm drivers need to be updated) but since I have no Backtrack experience, I don't want to screw up the integration that has built for BCM drivers buy the Backtrack creators.

    Apt-get update doesn't do anything either as this isn't really a backtrack update.... per-se

    Any thoughts?

    How did you get the internet to work? I have the same laptop and I can't seem to get it to work. The light on the laptop that shows whether or not the network card is on is off. I press the FN key and the button to turn it on but the light doesn't come on. How do you get the internet to work on this laptop?
