    Default HD install - Can anyone help me fix my lilo.conf (triple boot)

    I was dual booting using Windows XP Pro and Ubuntu 7.04, I partitioned and installed BackTrack 2 using the installer and it wrote to the MBR like it said it would.

    I have the configuration from GRUB before I installed BackTrack which is below.

    Code:
    title Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 2.6.20-15-generic
    root (hd0,2)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-15-generic root=UUID=53459d5a-dcbc-42b3-aldf-1483fbc46982 ro quiet splash
    initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.250-15-generic
    quiet
    savedefault

    title Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 2.6.20-15-generic (recovery)
    root (hd0,2)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-15-generic root=UUID=53459d5a-dcbc-42b3-aldf-1483fbc46982 ro single
    initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.250-15-generic

    title Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    root (hd0,1)
    makeactive
    chainloader +1
    After installing BackTrack my lilo.conf is below

    Code:
    boot = /dev/hda
    prompt
    timeout = 20
    bitmap=/boot/splash.bmp
    change-rules
    reset
    vga = 0x317
    image = /boot/vmlinuz
    root = current
    initrd = /boot/splash.initrd
    label BackTrack 2 Final
    read-only
    So can anyone help me fix this all up so that I can boot into Ubuntu, BackTrack, and Windows? Any help would be much appreciated, I'm sure this would be easy for anyone who's not a noob.

    Umm try that. Then do lilo -v to reinstall lilo using the new config once you edited it. I don't know much about that root=UUID=53459d5a-dcbc-42b3-aldf-1483fbc46982 part, except that you might have to add that to the append options for the ubuntu kernels.

    I got Windows to work but when I try to rewrite lilo it says

    fatal: open /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-15-generic: No such file or directory

    It might be a Ubuntu thing, ill check with them unless anyone knows whats going on.

    The EASIEST way (since I suck at editing lilo) is to boot from a Ubuntu Live CD, and use GRUB.

    Open a shell and type:

    sudo grub

    then type:
    find /boot/grub/stage1

    then type:
    root (hd0,#) (# being whatever was displayed from the previous command)

    lastly type:
    setup (hd0)

    and you should be good again. Let me know how it works out.

    Well I reinstalled GRUB and got it working. Now I can get into Ubuntu and Windows but not BackTrack. GRUB gives me a cannot mount partiton error when I try booting now.

    Gparted shows the following information about my BackTrack partition/

    Partition: /dev/sda1
    Filesystem: reiserfs
    Mountpoint: (nothing)

    I edited grub to look like the following

    Code:
    title linux
    root (hd0,1)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda1
    initrd /boot/splash.initrd
    Before I installed GRUB my LILO looked like

    Code:
    boot = /dev/hda
    prompt
    timeout = 20
    bitmap=/boot/splash.bmp
    change-rules
    reset
    vga = 0x317
    image = /boot/vmlinuz
    root = /dev/hda1
    initrd = /boot/splash.initrd
    label linux2
    read-only

    ok the pb is i think is that grub don't count part like lilo

    try root (hd0,0) instead of root (hd0,1)

    hd0,1 is sda2 not sda1
    hope helps
    Watch your back, your packetz will belong to me soon... xD
