Default Basic Connecting to Internet Question

Hi guys, I have a very basic question..

I run Kismet and I can see many networks in the area, including my own.. I want to surf the internet on my network (it is unsecure, turned off network encryption for simplicity) my Dell 620 Wifi light lites up only after Kismet starts..

when if use the iwconfig i'm pretty sure that my WLAN card is eth1...

when i use KWifiManger it cant find any networks.. i know there is also another app in the internet menu, but when i use that I also cant find any networks..

I have a Dell Wireless 1490 Dual Band mini wireless card...

right now, i just wanna connect to the net and browse.. can anyone help me figure that out??

    Thanks,
    Newbie

set your card in the correct mode first.
    iwconfig eth1 mode managed
if you have any problems connecting with wireless assistance just post back and one of us will give you the manual commands or you could search the forum for it.

thanks alot, i think i tried that, but i'm not 100% sure so i'll try it again...

i'm just wondering, why does my WLAN card only startup after kismet runs the first time? is it because its off and i can turn it on by doing

    ifconfig eth1 on

    thanks
