    Post Problems with AWUS036NH USB connecting to BT4 R2 through VMWare

    Hi All,
    My problem here is I cannot see the Wireless USB on BT4 R2 through VMWare

    My setup is ;

    Mac Book Pro 15, MAC OSX 10.6.5, VMWare Fusion 3.1.2. I have a ALFA AWUS036NH wireless usb adapter. BT4 R2 loaded onto VMWare. I'm using the latest kernel 2.6.35.8. I have installed and built the latest Compat-Wireless-2010-12-16. As suggested i'm using rt2800usb driver. However i have selected NAT for networking in VMWare. I can see a flashing blue light on my Wireless USB adapter. But when I try to select "Ralink Connect 802.11 n WLAN" on the VMWARE status bar, everything just locks up and the only remedy is to reboot. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong.

    Thanks in advance for your kind cooperation.

    BT Noob..!!!

    You will have to directly map the USB device to the virtual machine (Vritual Machine -> USB -> Connect <you wireless card>. It needs a direct connection to the USB card.

    Connect it using VMware, also use Bridged networking.

    what do you mean by connect it through vmware ?

    What I am doing is, i run vmware fusion backtrack and then connect the cable. alfa starts on linux first then I click on connect usb device on vmware and then it disconnects from mac os but does not start in backtrack ?

    Now would be a grate time to start giving more information, like lsusb, used commands, did you start the network, etc.

    The problem is, it is not recognising it all ! The green leds start running continuously it does not turn itself off anymore and iwconfig, ifconfig, nothing finds the card. I tried it with Parallels which is a similar software like vmware but same thing happens. Whenever I click the button to connect it to linux, the green led runs permanently..

    Its a macbook does the mac have the ability to see the alfa? Even though the guest os is connected to the USB through VMwares console, doesn't the host also have to be able to recognize it?
