Default Monitor mode not working Linksys WUSB54GC ver 3

My Hawking HWUG1 recently died, so I went browsing for a new USB adapter that would work on BT4. I saw the wiki listed the WUSB54GC ver 3, and I found it for a good price and picked it up. I installed it fine on Windows after fighting with the drivers for a bit (Linksys cd was no help), and it is recognized on VirtualBox fine and BT4R2 shows it perfectly. I'm able to connect to wireless networks with wicd without issue. However, When I attempt airodump-ng with it, it's only worked 1 out of 5 times. I tried manually placing it in monitor mode with:
    Code:
    ifconfig wlan0 down
    iwconfig wlan0 mode monitor
    ifconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig wlan0 (to check that monitor mode is up)
Am I doing something wrong, or is it simply a bugged out stick?

    try this: airmon-ng start wlan0

It should create mon0 as the monitor mode interface

guess I should have listed my process to get airodump-ng going...sorry.

    Code:
    ifconfig wlan0 down
    airmon-ng start wlan0
    airodump-ng mon0
Same process I've used hundreds of times with other adapters, including an older version of this same stick. Never had any issues with them unless they decided to die.

just installed VMWare Player and put a BT4R2 guest on it. Monitor seems to be working fine. Guess it's an issue with VirtualBox?

[edit] def an issue with VirtualBox and how it handles USB devices. Tried my "dead" Hawking and its working. Cracking WEP with injection as I speak. Guess I'll be working in VMWare form now on...
