You have to use the wifi card as USB if you want wlan0... otherwise eth0 is all you have.

The virtual machine may not be able to communicate with the host or with other machines on your network. I have vmware workstation 7.1.3
how do i start this correctly so the vmware workstation works with backtrack 4 correctly after it loads up... so i can run /etc/init.d/networking start so i get interface wlan0 correctly connected in virtual machine
right now i am getting no such device wlan0 so what do i do please
i got the network bridged automatically in virtual settings Replicate is unchecked in the box

BT4 and VMware both support USB wifi cards, however you'll want to pay attention to which one you get. Search around the the forums and interwebs for more info on device compatibility with regard to driver support and packet injection. $15 bucks can get you what you want if you know where to look.
