Beginners first steps and problems...

I have tried Backtrack on three laptops so far, and there are issues on all of them preventing me to use BackTrack...

Using the Live CD
Will not work in GUI mode, message that no screen is found.
Using WMware
Cant find Network card at first, but after a while I can surf on on Internet.
But trying any of the tools tells me that I dont have a network card...

PC2 (Acer Aspire 5538G)

Using the Live CD
Shows no network card in settings, only lo 127.0.0.1 255.0.0.0 Loopback up
But going to Wicid Network manager shows my own and other Wlan´s....
Cant connect though, because getting message that I have to enable encryption... How ???

Also, on this laptop, I get an option to install on HD...
Its an Icon on the desktop for this tht I did not get on PC1.
Will that be a DualBoot, or will it erase my Windows installation ?

Didnt work to boot from external CD player, no support in bios for that.
I havnt tried USB boot, but I guess its the same story...

General questions:

1/ Do I have to login to a known network (like my own) to be able to scan and extract keys from other networks around me ?

2/ I seem to have no luck with the internal network cards. I also tried with two USB cards that I had laying around, a Sweex LC100040 and a Zyxel Zyair G-220. But they only seem to work in XP, found no Linux drivers.
And even if there Linux drivers, how do I install them using a Live CD ?

Using WMware, is it correct that I will never be able to use the internal network card ?
That only USB cards will work ?

Well I think that you could have found all the answers with a simple search on the forum in less time that you wrote this post.

1. If the wireless network requires encryption that means you need a password to log on to that network.
2. About you scanning the other networks around you, we do not support illegal activities here and besides that you don't even have the slightest idea what you are trying to do.
3. About your network cards I'm sure google can help, and about installing them to your live cd aswell
4. For your VMware question I suggest you read the Wiki or the FAQs again.
