I've not seen a difference between the two. They're both free, try them both and see which one you like better.
Of course, if you really wanted to have some fun, go to Wal-Mart late at night and ask the greeter if they could help you find trashbags, roll of carpet, rope, quicklime, clorox and a shovel. See if they give you any strange looks. --Streaker69
The free one would be VMware server, Workstation is not. Anyhow, I agree with Barry, they're both great products, I've used them both.

Don't PM me with questions, unless very specific. Otherwise, use the forums so everyone can potentially benefit from it.

Thanks, I will try them both.
Right, that allows you to load premade images, like the one the backtrack site. I just forgot about it because I always make VM's myself for my study.

I prefer Virtual Box. It just runs faster and a lot more smoothly for me, both on boot, shutdown, and switching between host and guest OS.
odd someone just posted this link in the irc channel
VMware vs. VirtualBox - Mars Box
Might give it a once over.
