Only you can answer which adapter to buy, everyone's opinion will be different. I have an alfa awus036nh and injection works fine on BT4r1, BT4r2 and Gentoo 2.6.36 using the rt2800usb driver, NOT the rt3070sta driver.

I may have been born with a silver spoon in my mouth but it does not mean I like to be spoon fed.
I will chime in and agree with skinnypuppy, mainly because I really like the answer =) I have the same adapter, and rt2800usb has been great for injection capabilities (+ MAC spoof). just be aware you wont be getting internet connection (yet) with rt2800usb as it's still under heavy development, that is where the 'sta' driver comes in = only for internet usage.
good luck, since you asked specifically about bt4r1, check here for more details on rt2x00 drivers.
'see the fnords!'
Yes it can, if you install and patch the correct drivers...
But it all depends on the network you want... since the 2000mw don't really make a huuuge difference of the signals you get... at least thats my experience...
If you only want g connections, go for the AWUS036H, its easier to install and gets more signals...
