Well is the network yours ? Can you browse the internet on a different OS ?
Hello! I'm using Backtrack 4 live CD and I successfully connected to the open wired connection in my building with wcid manager and have an IP but I still cannot browse the internet in firefox. I was hoping for at least the splash screen for my college but there's nothing... Anyone know how to get around this problem? Any help is greatly appreciated!

of course the network isn't his, sickness;
just for kicks, let's offer some general networking concepts to troubleshoot......splash screen for my college
try pinging your gateway (let's assume it accepts ICMP). does it work?
if it does, try pinging google (or another high-availability site).
does it work? if not, you aren't getting out of the school net.
if google responds, can you browse? if not, can you browse to one of google's IP addresses?
74.125.95.103 for instance...
if that works, but google.com doesn't, check your DNS settings.
c'mon, people. this isn't brain surgery....
