Is MAC spoofing temporary?

If I use macchanger to change my MAC address, will it stay changed forever, or when I poweroff the MAC address would return to it's original state.

I can think of an easy way you could find out. Use macchanger to change your mac address, restart your machine, then check to see if your mac address has changed back or not.
