Hello All -
I downloaded the Backtrack 4 R1 VM file and extracted it to a folder which contains 10 vmdk files. Using VMWare Workstation (newest), I tried to open it which was a nogo since there's no vmx. I also tried to create a new VM with Ubuntu as the base, but when I try to use existing disk and slect the 1st vmdk, I get an error.
I also tried to import the vmdk using virtualbox, but it didn't work either.
What am I missing? - Thanks!

Same thing here.
The compressed file contain only vmware disk files.
Since vmware workstation need vmware image files I'm unable to install it.
I found nothing about how to convert the virtual disk into a VM.
Someone can help please ?
I know this is kind of old.. but if you use the vmware converter you should be able to convert it into any file type you need. There are many walkthrough's on google.
I just used the vm image / converter to do an ESXi port last week and it worked perfectly.
hey it is possible to load a .vdmk file in a virtual box... simply create a machine and before u run the machine u need to mount an operating system cd for the machine ...instead of tht go to setting ->storage and click on the virual hard disk tht u hav made and click the browse button for tht and locate ur back track .vmdk file and set it as ur hard disk and now run machine . u gonna get ur back track loaded
There was an analogical problem. Decides installing of old version (5.X).
Hi all,
I had download it and already install VMware Workstation 7.0 on my Laptop. I open BT4-R1 by VMware Workstation, I login with user root, pass toor. Afeter 5 day I had research, read and see many thread and video but after that i don't know what should I do continue for ha_ck wifi pass. Backtrack really very strong power but very hard to understand and use it for ha_ck wifi pass. Someone should write the guide thread step by step for newcomer PLEASE, TKS.
There is no way that you have been researching for 5 days and not find a guide. pfft. Now I can see why the forum rules are so strict. Here: tutorial [Aircrack-ng]
50 bux says your not using a USB wireless adapter? I'm guessing you tried to follow the guides but kept getting stuck because of this.
