Default Unable to install RT73 USB enhanced driver...

    Hi,
I have a wireless USB dongle with Ralink RT73 chipset and Backtrack 4 (kernel 2.6.34)
Default drivers (rt2x00 mac80211) don't seem to work with the injection mode so I need to install the RT73 USB Enhanced drivers : ASPj's WiFi Page: mdk3, rt73, rt2570 and other aircrack-ng experiments (last version).

The problem is I get that when I run make command :
    Code:
    root@bt:~/rt73-k2wrlz-3.0.3/Module# make
    make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.34'

      WARNING: Symbol version dump /usr/src/linux-source-2.6.34/Module.symvers
is missing; modules will have no dependencies and modversions.

      Building modules, stage 2.
      MODPOST 0 modules
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.34'
    rt73.ko failed to build!
    make: *** [module] Error 1
Of course build-essential, linux-source and linux-headers-2.6.34 are installed.

What can I do to resolve the problem and install the drivers ?
    Thank you.

Well, BT4 has the driver installed, if I am right. I myself have a Eminent Ralink RT73 and working without problems. Very important: Did you set your card into monitoring mode first?
code: airmon-ng start [device] and then it should work.

Hi, yes of course I did it, and then I used the mon0 that appeared instead of the wlan0 interface to run the injection test.
Today I will setup a new Wmware image with Ubuntu 9.04 (because of the 2.6.28 kernel wich is flagged as compatible with the enhanced driver) to see if I'm able to install it and run a test injection.

    Hi,

BT4 R1 seems to work fine with my WUSB54GC some minor tweaks though. The rt73 driver is by default blacklisted. Edit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and comment (#) out the blacklist rt73 line.

    Then apt-get install rt73-drivers

    Reboot

Tested packet injection and MAC change works 100%

I have the same problem with this usb dongle (WN321G v4). Although i was wondering if version 4 is not supported.

    From lsusb i get:
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 148f:2070 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2070 Wireless Adapter

From ifconfig -a i get only loopback and ethernet.

    From modprobe -l | grep "rt73*" i get:
    Code:
    /lib/modules/2.6.34/extra/rt73.ko
    /lib/modules/2.6.34/updates/drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00/rt73usb.ko
    From
    Code:
    insmod /lib/modules/2.6.34/updates/drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00/rt73usb.ko
    I get:
    Code:
insmod: error inserting '/lib/modules/2.6.34/updates/drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00/rt73usb.ko': -1 Unknown symbol in module
I downloaded the enhanced drivers also from the here but i had the same errors when issuing make, as mentioned above, from spiderben25:
    Code:
    make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.34'

      WARNING: Symbol version dump /usr/src/linux-source-2.6.34/Module.symvers
is missing; modules will have no dependencies and modversions.

      Building modules, stage 2.
      MODPOST 0 modules
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.34'
    rt73.ko failed to build!
    make: *** [module] Error 1
I have kernel 2.6.34. Any clues why this is happening?
    Thanks in advance!

I see this thread is really active!
By searching more i found out, unfortunately, that this USB dongle uses rt2870 and not rt73. I was successful in installing this driver but no packet injection with this! I didn't expect this dongle had versions. These versions are a headache, and usually the sellers don't have a clue to inform the buyer about what version is buying!
