Try "poweroff"
How do you shutdown? I use the command "shutdown now" or I click log out and the screen goes nuts and the thing never shuts off.
Try "poweroff"
Try to use the command halt

I use poweroff, or poweroff now for some distros. Pretty basic question though, next time you might want to google (linux shutdown command should get you a long way).
You were right.... that question was pretty bad.
Just yank out the powercable/battery.

man shutdown
This is the sixth time we have created a thread about it... and we have become exceedingly efficient at it.
shutdown -h 0
Pressing the power button may also work
ya it sounded bad but I've used "shutdown" and the screen goes nuts.
