Default Some beginner problems - keymap and X

    Hello all
I'm new to backtrack but not new to linux. However i have some weird beginner problem with this distribution.
I am running Backtrack 4 R1 and have with the help of unetbootin put it on a USB-drive.
I have tried a few different boot-options but with the same results.
I tried selecting framebuffer 1024x768 but got something similar to "no video mode 317"
i tried the default with different video modes but only got to the console.
Trying to start KDE with startkde i got:
xprop: unable to open display ''
    kdeinit: aborting is not set.
ksmserver: cannot connect to X server.
ERROR: couldnt attach to DCOP server:

    Trying with startfluxbox i got:
feh ERROR: cant open X display. It is running, yeah?
could not open display. Make sure you have an X server running

    Trying with startx i got:
    VESA0: no valid modes.
Screens found, but none have a usable configuration.
Fatal server error: no screens found

Now i am probably missing something basic, however i am not sure what.
I guess i could do with the console but i would need swedish keymap. Tried to set it with loadkeys but could not find any keymaps.
Looked in /usr/share/kbd but there is no such folder. I saw an example of a user loading a keymap called de-latin1.map.gz but when doing "find / -name de-latin1.map.gz nothing is found.
Also tried dpkg-reconfigure console-data but got the error:
    /usr/sbin/dpkg/reconfigure: console-data is not installed

I am running other Linux distros on the computer withouth issues.

    Hardware:
    Samsung N210
    Video:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Pineview Integrated Graphics Controller
Subsystem: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd Device c072
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 30
    Memory at f0300000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K]
    I/O ports at 18d0 [size=8]
    Memory at d0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
    Memory at f0000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1M]
    Capabilities: [90] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask- 64bit- Queue=0/0 Enable+
Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2

00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Pineview Integrated Graphics Controller
Subsystem: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd Device c072
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0
    Memory at f0380000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K]
Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2

So any help with X and or loadkeys would be very helpful.
    Thanks

    Have you tried running fix-vesa?

There are also a few other options you could try here.
I would read these two threads to start off with, there are several options listed:

    http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...ber-317-a.html
    and if that doesn't help:
Unidentified Video Mode 317 Error - MEPISlovers Forum

and do come back and tell us what the solution was, yah?
    good luck with that...

I can now report that the fixvesa command did work to get X working when i booted the default mode in backtrack. Thank you very much!

I will now check out the threads about the framebuffer options.

I don't think i will have any issues setting the correct keymap in KDE or fluxbox, but if i wanted to use the console withouth X sometime, how do i change the keymap there?
