If you have the opportunity, try BT4 Final, see if the error still occurs.
I am using Backtrack 4 R1. I encounter this issue straight from booting a Live, no matter what mode I tried (safe, framebuffer 1024x768, etc). This was attempted on a Lenovo G555. I have not had these issues with BT3 Final. I can still boot into KDE with startx. I had to issue fixvesa first. The error was:
pci_root PNP0A08:00: address space collision host bridge window [mem 0x00cc000-0c00cffff] conflicts with video ROM [mem 0x00c0000-0x000cebff].
I encountered a similar issue with an HP Compaq 6715b.
Hardware specs for G555:
AMD Athalon II Dual-Core M320 @ 2.10 GHZ
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 256 MB
3 GB DDR2 RAM @ 400 MHZ
AMD M880G Chipset
HD0- 160 GB Western Digital (WD1600BEVT-24A23T0) Firmware ver 01.01A02
HP Specs:
AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology TL-52 / 1.6 GHz
ATI Radeon X1250 Shared video memory
AMD M690T Chipset
1 GB RAM
Any fixes/suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Larkaros

I got the KDE to work after a fixvesa then startx. The error still appears, but it doesn't seem to be doing too much to damage anything at the moment. When I get a chance, I will download the BT4 Final Iso and try to see if that helps with anything.
Thanks,
