    Default Keyboard layout

I have tried all of the keyboard layouts for BT4 and I can not get the 'pipe' key or otherwise known as the 'greaterbar' key to work. The only way I've found it to work is by typing this into the terminal every time I logon:

    xmodmap -e "keycode 94 = greater bar"

Does anyone know how I can automate this process or even if there's something I'm missing? Thank you.

It works fine in here. Either way, you can create a script and put it in the Autostart folder, like follows:
    Code:
    cd /root/.kde/Autostart
    kate greaterbar.sh
    Paste the following:

    Code:
    #!/bin/bash
    xmodmap -e "keycode 94 = greater bar"
    Save and close:

    Code:
    chmod +x greaterbar.sh
Reboot. It will only run when you open KDE (startx). There's other way to make it run before (i.e. when the system is booting), but I don't remember how and honestly, I don't feel like searching.

Well that is odd. Is this the only key that you have noticed that does not work?
Further do you have some hardware specs ?
In the mean time you may be able to write small script and put it in your /.kde3/Autostart/ directory or add a line to your /root/.Xinitrc file

EDIT: see also above post too. Snayler was quick.

Snayler, thank you so much for the quick reply. I will do that for now until I get it figured out. I did figure out that if I go to my keyboard settings and change my layout variant to "chessmate", the greater bar and backslash both work properly while I'm in the X server, but if I get to the terminal without the X server running (CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE), it reverts back to lesser and greater signs again. It's so weird. Here's the laptop that I have:

    Asus G60VX-RBBX05
    DIMENSION: 14.8 x 10.4 x 1.6
WEIGHT: 7.2 lbs with 6 cell battery
    CPU: Intel P7450 2.13 ghz 3MB L2 Cache
    Memory: 4 GB PC-6400 Hyundai (2X2) at 800Mhz
    HDD: 320gb 7200rpm HD
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GTX 260M 1GB
    SCREEN: 16 inches LED at 1366 X 768
KEYBOARD: Chicklet type back-lit (white light) keyboard
    OS: Windows 7 premium
PORT: 4 USB, 1 E-SATA, 1 HDMI, 2 Headphone, 1 Mic, card reader, Express card slot, ethernet.
    BATTERY: 6 CELL
    WEB CAM: 1.3 MP

Thanks for all the help so far.

When you install BT, you'll be able to choose our keyboard layout, which will be applied to your terminal.
There should be also a way to change it after installation, but I don't know how. Nothing that a simple google search wouldn't reveal.
