Im new. I need help. ioctl (SIOCSIFFLAGS) failed: No such file or directory

Hi guys.. Im new with this Backtrack thing, I dont know anything bout programming or hacking etc. , but I just wanted to find the WEP of a wifi that Im detcting. I watched some YouTube videos and I kind of learned how to do it. I think its pretty easy. But my problem is that when I oppen the first Konsole in BT4, I type "airodump-ng wlan0" and i only get a message that says:

ioctl (SIOCSIFFLAGS) failed: No such file or directory

So Im not able to get the BSSID and the Chanel, I also tried "airodump-ng mon0" but I get the same answer.
Well prety much thats all, I hope someone can help me. Thanks alot.

What model of wifi access point is it that you are trying to crack?

Read up on the program airmon-ng and your specific wireless card.

Did you set your wireless card into monitor mode first? Then you can see which wireless you have to run with airodump-ng.

Hi guys.. Im new also with this Backtrack thing, especially in crack..i dont know nothing..I watched some youtube videos on how to hack WEP key..followed all the directions..all goes well, #data reached till 110231..but when I type 'aircrack-ng wep-01.cap wlan0' it says "open failed: No such file or directory"..

I hope someone can help me. Thanks alot.

yeah no preoblem.... it was somthn really simple... I just used a different wireless card.. its a Linksys WPC11v4
