Unhappy Macchanger doesnt change my mac address... (aireplay-ng) fake auth fails

    Hi,

I am trying to do a fake auth with my AP with mac filtering on. I only have one wireless card.

'macchanger -m <mac on whitelist> mon0' doesnt seem to change my mac address.

i am changing to one on the whitelist but it still comes back with 'AP rejects the source mac address?'

im not sure what card i have atm but an 'airmon-ng start wlan0' shows...

    INTERFACE CHIPSET DRIVER

    wlan0 Atheros ath9k - [phy0]
    (monitor mode enabled on mon0)

if i do a 'macchanger -m <mac on whitelist> mon0' (after putting the card into monitor mode) it shows its changed but as i say it doesnt seem to actually change it because the AP still blocks me.

any ideas? or is there another way of changing my mac address?

I have tried searching and i came accros some commands that worked for someone else - something like wlanconfig create wifi0. (theres loads missing from the command)

but it wouldnt work for me.

Thank you in advance and if you need any more info let me know.

    Timez

A good way to test the veracity of this statement would be running wireshark and checking if the MAC address of the packets leaving your adapter coincides with the MAC address on your whitelist.

You can also try changing your MAC address manually and see if there are any error messages while issuing the commands:
    Code:
    # ifconfig mon0 down
    # ifconfig mon0 hw ether <mac address>
    # ifconfig mon0 up
    # ifconfig mon0 |grep HWadd (to check if the change was successful)

says 'SIOCSIFHWADDR: INVALID ARGUMENT' when doing hw ether

You should change the mac before you put it in monitor mode. What is the ouput of 'lspci | grep Net' after you change the mac & go into monitor mode?
