    Default Wireless Interface problem

    Hello everyone,

Lets start with bit history here.I am new to backtrack and I am not using backtrack as an hacking/cracking interface rather I am using to learn to gain some networking and unix knowledge.

I am using HP dv4 pavillion laptop and my wireless card is Atheros AR9285.
At first I tried with live cd where iwconfig was showing my wireless interface and also
working as per expected. But I am having windows 7 as a primary OS so i dont want to use my full HDD to install the back|Track 4 R1.Rather i was thinking to make it a dual boot along with Windows 7.

I started with vmware player and I was unable to see my wireless interface then I moved to Virtual Box .After almost 2 days of hard "Googling" i found many things and learned many things but EOD i am not able to see my wireless card.

    ABOUT THE ISSUE
    ------------------

    When I am typing 'iwconfig'
    Its showing
eth0,eth1,lo and all of this cases showing 'no wireless network found'.

I also saw when I was googling that Virtual Box /VMware player unable to load any host user wireless interface.I am not sure about this just confirming here.Is it true?
Is there no way we can do it?

So coming to the point I can't see my wireless interface in backtrack.
I tried so many things like installed madwifi and all still not working.
I just want to make sure whether it's possible anyway or not then I can proceed with other option.

Though through the DHCP my internet is working in guest OS through wireless only.
And when I am ping my router gateway(10.0.01) its receiving the packets.

Because I have no wired internet connection only wireless.
In the time of setting the network adapter i set it as Bridge and NAT and in both ways when I am starting the /etc/init.d/networking start the internet is working but the wireless interface is'nt showing.

Sorry to bug you guys ... but it would be really helpful for me if anyone can provide me a proper way to solve this problem.

    Regards,
    Avirup

The reason you're seeing 'no wireless extensions' under iwconfig is because those cards aren't wireless cards

Yes, your findings are correct. Onboard cards do not work with VMWare. Only USB dongles, such as an Alfa AWUS036H, work through virtualization.
