HP pavilion dv4 installation problem

hi guys i m new to backtrack man i need ur support yesterday i had downloaded bt4-final.iso and burnt it to a dvd at slow speed as guided when i ran it i selected 800x600 it loaded the drivers then left me with the root@bt prompt i entered startx it shuts by giving some error devive set to priority 1 i used it on my desktop pc where it run smoothely after entering startx then i used it on another hp dv4 laptop and got the same problem
this is what i m getting after typing startx

I've run into similar problems in the past using the BT4 LiveCD on various desktops/laptops. There are a few posts on this forum addressing this problem (as well as other Linux distro support sites). You can try and reconfigure X by entering the following:

root@bt:~# dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

You will be asked a series of different questions about your display. Try and manage the best you can or select the defaults where applicable. If things don't work initially go back and try a new setting or look up your display device for the specs rather than guessing.

I haven't used it yet but several other members make reference to using the following command :

root@bt:~# fix-vesa

I went and changed the xorg.conf file manually which I'm guessing probably did the same thing as using the fix-vesa command?

Anyhow, if neither of the above work, google is your friend. Good luck!

You tried using both commands and nothing works? Did you look up the specs for your screen and use them when reconfiguring X?

hi zeee i searched a lot and found that backtrack have some problem with my dual display adapter my pc has two built in adapters one is
intel graphics media accelerator hd
and another one is ati mobility radenon 4550
now when it found two display adapter backtrack does not know which one to set primary and x server shuts by giving error i earlier mentioned
..well i was thinking that there is anyway to force backtrack to select one of them...
i f there is someway then plz let me know thnx...
