    Default Upgrade to python 2.7

I wrote a small program in python that uses ssl wrappers. When I wrote the program I was using a machine with python 2.7 and the program uses the ssl.wrap_socket(ciphers='') function. Everything was working great so I copied it to my backtrack machine. My problem is that option does not work with python 2.5 which I verified on this page 17.3. ssl — SSL wrapper for socket objects — Python v2.7 documentation.

So my question is can I upgrade to python 2.7 on my backtrack 4R1 machine or am I going to break a lot of the python tools? Also if it is safe to upgrade is there a recommended upgrade path or should I just go follow an Ubuntu python install guide?

    Thanks!

i wont mess around with custom-packages since its not supported it may happen that you break some other stuff... so the best way would be to "./configure --prefix /opt/python2.7" your python install.... or do something simillar to this so you are not messing stuff up.

    good luck.

just as an fyi you can install more than one version of python onto your system.
    Code:
     root@bt:~# whereis python
    python: /usr/bin/python2.5 /usr/bin/python /usr/bin/python2.5-config /usr/bin/python2.4 /etc/python2.5 /etc/python /etc/python2.4 /usr/lib/python2.5 /usr/lib/python2.4 /usr/local/lib/python2.5 /usr/local/lib/python2.4 /usr/include/python2.5 /usr/include/python2.5_d /usr/include/python2.4 /usr/include/python2.4_d /usr/share/python /usr/share/man/man1/python.1.gz
