Target System with VMware

I am trying to setup a target machine to get practice using backtrack 4 r1.
The target machine will use DE-Ice and PwnOS maybe others.
The question is that if DE-Ice is ran on the same machine as backtrack through VMware will I lose functionality?

I mean they will both be inside the same LAN which means I wont get practice getting into the network.

Any ideas to solve this issue?
I also have a older 1.4Ghz with 512 ram sitting in a corner .. but even using that I would be inside the same LAN behind the same router. (idk if this helps).

Your not really going to lose functionality by doing this. It's better performance wise if you can use two machines one attacker, one victim. However this is not a hard requirement.

You can always create an environment for that in your virtualbox to test you "getting into the network" skills.
