    Exclamation Backtrack keeps shutting down.

    Hello everyone,

Recently installed a fresh batch of backtrack 4 final on my hard drive and for some reason it keeps powering off ((NOT SHUTTING DOWN)). Now I have been using backtrack for about a year and I've reintalled about a million times. This is really wierd what can cause this to happen could the iso be corrupted.

Also for some reason the backtrack repo's are not showing up.

Well, check your logfiles. What do they say?

No chance to solve an issue or find a bug without logfile analysis.

Is the laptop plugged in? Did you turn hibernation or a screen saver etc. on? I know it seems trivial but you'd be surprised.

Yeah it was plugged in I think the iso got corrupted some how because I have been moving lots of files lately. Just to be sure I burned the iso on a usb memory stick and it just shuts down like as if I removed the battery so I just downloaded a new iso and no problems with the new iso.

Turns out I still have the same problem what can be causing this to happen. I would really really apreciate some help thank you guys.

First try it out on a different machine. That rules out an issue with the image you are using.

After that, start doing what was recommended and check the logfile.

I don't think its the iso anymore because I installed it on my desktop and it works fine. Witch log file do you want me to check and what do you want me to look for to post.

    Default Linux just powers off

    Hello everyone,

Recently I reformatted my whole hard drive and just reinstalled windows 7 and backtrack 4. Now I have been using backtrack for a while and I have reinstalled it countless times. This is where it gets wierd now when I Installed backtrack for the first time after reformatting my hard drive my laptop just powers off out of no where like i just pulled the battery out. So I thought I might of corrupted my iso so I downloaded it again and the same thing happened. Any insight on the problem would be great. I really need some advice to put me in the right direction.

P.S Sorry KMDave, since you took my PMing away I couldn't apologize plus I have been on this forum when it first began. Again I'm sorry KMDave.

I don't know why this message was closed other than what it states above. But as it states it's not a good idea to go biting that hand the feeds you.
I will accept your apology on the ground (as for my fellow Moderator and you that is something you two can clear up per another means, the forum here is not for that) that this thread can be reopened, however it might be a good idea for you to read the rules, that you did agree to.
Also we don't care if you "have been on this forum" since "it first began", because if that was the case you would know the rules by now. I have also taken the liberty to let KMDave know about this post above.
