It must be a setting somewhere because using a hard disk install of BT1 on the same laptop, kde stays up when I close the laptop lid.
No one else seeing this problem?

Is there some way I can stop kde from shutting down everytime I close the lid on my laptop? It drops me out to the linux console every time and I have to run startx to get back in again. (BT2 Final Live CD)

Check your laptop settings in the bios. In my lattitude you can control that from XP and the bios.
