Try grub2
Boot to live disk and sudo apt-get install grub2

Hi, I've searched around a bit, and can't quite come up with a solution. This is my second attempt at dual booting backtrack and windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 600m (with the latest bios available-A17).
On my first attempt, I created two partitions, one for xp, one for backtrack. I cloned an xp installation to the first partition, then installed backtrack to the other partition. I got ERROR 18 when grub started loading.
On my second attempt, I installed Xp from an image, using the entire disk. I then booted into the BT4 cd, and installed, using the instructions here: Dual Boot | BackTrack Linux - Penetration Testing Distribution
I still get grub error 18.
On the last install, I left a 300Mb partition of unused space at the beginning of the drive. Is my answer to move /boot to there, as I've read? If someone could point me in the direction of how to do this, I'd appreciate it greatly.
I downloaded supergrub, and can see both installations, and boot to them using supergrub.
Is there a way to reinstall or fix grub so that I can boot either OS?
Thanks to everyone.
