Backtrack 4 Final - Vmware Tools - X Server Issue the xth

Hi folks,


I know there are many threads about vmware and particularly vmware-tools.

The last days I gave Bt4Final a tryout. Problem is that I stuck with Vmware-Tools.

At this point I have an issue which can't be solved with the help of the other threads or any research that I did.

As a matter of course I tried to fix this problem by myself. Spent hours of researching and trying. But sadly I found no solution.
It's not the first time that I've to install the tools, but never got an issue like that in the past.
While I stuck, I searched the Web for a solution and found finally this nice Tutorial:

The way how it's described is almost like the way that I have tried. I've also tried exactly the way how it's described there, with the same result.

Here's a log what I've got during the installation process.

btw. At this point "The updated X config file does not work well. See ...... Do you want to create a new one from template? Warning: if you choose to create a new one, all old settings will be gone! (yes/no) [yes]" i tried yes/no with the same result. X won't come up. When I use "fixvesa" then, its working again, but with a wrong resolution, also autofit isn't working.

Show some mercy guys and point me in the right direction please.

Try issuing the fixvesa script, then change the config file so that the "Device" Section looks like this:

Section "Device"
    Identifier  "(leave it as it is)"
    Driver      "vmware"
EndSection

It won't solve the resolution problem, I think. But the autofit feature should work.

Let us know if it works.
