    Default Cant install Backtrack!

Hey, total noob to Linux, however trying to get BT up and running.

I burned iso to dvd, booted from cd, choose live persistent CD when prompted, tried to start up graphical interface and got "screens found, but none have a usable configuration". Vesa fallback wont work either: "VESA:No valid modes"

Ive an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 so maybe that is causing the issue. I went into xorg.conf changed the mode to vga but it had no effect.

I looked at the log0 file and it says

    Loading XFree86-DRI
Scanning usr/share/x-server-xorg/pci directory for additional PCI ID's supported by the drivers.
No matches found for this device
    Loading Vesa fallback

So I guess the solution would be to use apt-get to download the appropriate drivers for my gfx card?

I would do that but, I cannot get any network connectivity. After running /etc/init.d/networking start,
the following interfaces show up in ifconfig.

    eth0
    wlan0
    wmaster0
    lo

Running aptitude update results in unable to resolve archive.offensive-security.com.

Yes my Router (DHCP/DNS/NAT/Modem) is running properly.

    I need your help

Update: Installing to a partition on my HDD to see if that fixes the connectivity issues.

In order to get network connectivity, if your router is working correctly, when you get to the command prompt issue the following command:

    # ifdown eth0
    then
    #ifup eth0

and you should see your NIC negotiating with the routers DHCP service.

    hope this helps!

    Have you tried
    Code:
    dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
Back|track giving machine guns to monkeys since 2007 !

I havent, also after I initialize the interfaces I didnt set the nameserver address, what is the file path for the file to edit this?

Also, I got around my "unable to startx" problem. I just installed it on a slightly older laptop with an older GFX card and boom it came up perfectly.

Another question, once im at the KDE gui are there any drawbacks to using the terminal through that or will I have more privileges/features if I logout and do it that way? And the 6 ttyx's do they all navigate the same filesystem? If I make a change on 1, someone on 4 will see the change?

Oh and another question, im reading the slackware book, does backtrack have some features of the newest slackware distribution stripped away....like i noticed in the /docs/ folder the guide was talking about how there should be lots of publications in that directory, but there was only like 2 things that came along with the installation of BT.

BT4 final is not based on slackware so using such a guide will not help you. You need to upgrade to BT4 since we do not support any other version.
