    Please read the F.A.Q forum these questions have been answered. When typing the password it will seem as do nothing has been entered,this is normal and is for security reasons.

    Enter that password which you provided during installation.
    As GUI installation ask for your username and password.

    You are talking about BackTrack 4 Final yes ?

    With previous version, you were asked to enter a user name and password, with BT4 this step was
    omitted from the installation so the standard is ;
    User : root
    Password : toor

    You do not see any characters when typing 'toor', nor will the cursor move.
    I would try again, taking great care when typing..

    So all in all sounds like a PEBKAC error.
    (can't remember who first used that here on the forums, Thorin ? but thanks so much, I love that phrase )

    Good memory! Thorin was the the first to use PEBKAC on the old forums, and to my surprise it's basically the same issue. The OP was having login problems.

    If toor isn't working and you have nothing important on the drive, reinstall an MAKE SURE during install you type toor. If that doesn't work, run the live CD startx and see if it is a disk error.

    Hahahaha glad I could help
    I'm a compulsive post editor, you might wanna wait until my post has been online for 5-10 mins before quoting it as it will likely change.

    I know I seem harsh in some of my replies. SORRY! But if you're doing something illegal or posting something that seems to be obvious BS I'm going to call you on it.
