Not sure why it isn't bound to the loopback interface as well though. I didn't see anything in the nessusd.conf file that specified an interface to listen on.

Hopefully that will help anyone else having issues connecting to Nessus via loopback address.

    vi /opt/nessus/etc/nessus/nessusd.conf
(change) enable_listen_ipv4 = yes (default is no)
    (change) listen_address = 127.0.0.1 (default is 0.0.0.0)
    wq (write, quit your changes)
    service nessusd restart

Maybe you should add this too

If you start nessus and get error while connecting to https://127.0.0.1:8834, try the command with restart instead of start, if you then get the following:

[blah blah blah][some numbers]_qdb_open: invalid table of contents

stop nessus and do the following:

    Code:
    /opt/nessus/sbin/nessusd -R
Start nessus again and the problem should be fixed

Thanks for a nice tutorial. I tried installing Nessus on my back|track 4 VM, & also my Ubuntu 10.04 VM. My problem lies with going to the local host address. I can't seem to bring the page up in either of my browsers. What could I be doing wrong?

And for the record I do have the server running..
    Code:
     /etc/init.d/nessusd start
And I have changed NoScript to allow the address.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
I just browse to https://localhost:8834/ and it works for me in BT4R1

    Hey icurnet,

Thanks for responding 3 months later with a worthless response AND being a jerk about it. Much appreciated.

Anyway, if you read my post, I wasn't having a problem connecting to Nessus on 127.0.0.1 at all. Nessus was configured to listen on that address. It was a problem with my loopback interface. I could connect on the IP only when my eth0 interface was connected, but not through my wlan0 interface. Anyway, I fixed the issue with my loopback interface and all is well. We're talking about two different layers here. But thanks anyway.

Try this instead after you start your nessus if you cant access the server it worked for me.
    Code:
    root@bt:~# /etc/init.d/nessusd restart
