Default Problem with sound on non-root user!

    Hello!
I just created an Unprivileged (non root) User in BackTrack ,following this useful tutorial : http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...backtrack.html and everything went fine.
    I logged on my non-root user,and i saw that i don't have sound on,actually Kmix is off...
How can i fix this problem?
    Thanks!

Does sound work when you logon as root? I have heard of this (no sound only with non root users) happening sometimes with particular sound cards, but its definitely not the case for all cards - I am running BT as a non root user and sound works fine for me. Suggest you Google the problem and look for Linux/Ubuntu users who have had the same issue - there are definitely posts out there on this subject.

Try when running the usermod command, adding "audio" there too like this
    Code:
    root@bt:~# usermod --groups admin,disk,cdrom,audio <user>
    If this doesn't work:
    Code:
    apt-get remove alsa-utils
    apt-get install alsa-utils

Due to hardware malfunctions on my end I'm unable to test whether or not alsamixer is still a valid utility in backtrack. But it sounds to me (no pun intended) like once you created the new user it generated a default alsa configuration file which is sometimes set to mute sound input and output. To fix this just open a terminal and type alsamixer and if I remember correctly just hitting the letter "M" will unmute it, then save and exit.

Good one. Will update the tutorial accordingly. Funny that I had audio working on two different systems as a non root user without any problems without having made that change.
