Howto get Madwifi-ng drivers to work properly!

Yeah, doesn't seem to work for me. But -- I'll try it again.

Why would using insmod vs modprobe make that big of a difference? I'm curious.

Sometimes modprobe doesn't do the job correctly (insmod allways report an error it it can't load a module, modprobe doesn't).. example, see post 9 in this thread:

OK, thanks for the insight. But -- I know with modprobe it gets loaded by checking lsmod.

So I backed out to 20060212 that kirmet is running. Same old shite.

I tried loading ath_pci with modprobe and insmod and tried each of those with these wlanconfig setups:

wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode sta
wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode ap
wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode monitor

...nothin. I was destroying and 'ifconfig ath0 up' inbetween those.

Frustrating. You guys are in monitor mode thoug (the last of the three I have posted) to get airmon.sh to work, right?

Hmmmm, what's weird is that airodump seems to work. ?!?!?!?!?!?! WTF?

So -- I think it's working. But -- I have no idea why airmon.sh works for some and not others. Can you guys get kismet to run? Not sure what to put in /usr/local/etc/kismet.conf now.

I must say now that I got the hang of it I am VERY pleased with these drivers. I can now inject packets and was able to do my first DeAuth and ARP Injection ever! I had to patch my aireplay and upgrade kismet which I have not yet configured yet and if anyone has a good config for the new version of kismet with the Madwifi-ng drivers please post them or help me out here.

I got it all working except Kismet right now which needs a new config.

just edit the /usr/include/include.sh
and change the cardtype at the bottum of the file adding ng to madwifi_g

if echo $A_ASKINTERFACE | grep ath
then
# its a proxim based card
CARDTYPE="madwifing_g"
fi

you can then use the gui script as for the kismet.conf just change the suid to what ever normal user is in /home folder

# User to setid to (should be your normal user)
suiduser=user

I compiled with the no suiduser command. So I dont need the suiduser.

Also do you think you could post a copy of the kismet_ui.conf?

I forgot to back it up and lost the information for what should be visable in the ksimet UI.

do you change it to CARDTYPE="madwifing_g" and it has to be in monitor mode allready
